On Being ‘Lazy’ (It’s Good)

Saw this the other day from Ryan Holiday:

“I don’t have any goals. None. I have things I like doing — writing, running, etc — and I do them. My only goal is to keep doing those things. Results and accomplishments are the byproduct of this process.”

And I get it.

I like talking to clients and helping them. The byproduct is a career.

I like reading an absurd amount of books. The byproduct is knowledge.

I like walking my dog. The byproduct is health and peace.

No real goals feels wrong, right?. Maybe it feels lazy. Or scary. Like you fall behind. Everyone is moving faster. Doing “better”.

But maybe it’s also a really good idea.

Just wake up with a deep desire to do all the things you really like doing and do them really well.

That feels like a life well lived.
