Your antidote to a week of chaos.

Nick Hillier

Life is crazy. And at the end of the day, I’m convinced it’s simply meant to be enjoyed.

Be kind. Help others. Find purpose. Work. Play.

Ahem…Read. Drink.

And if you’re going to bother doing something you may as well do it well.

So read the best books. Drink the best beers.

You’ll find new ‘bests’ here every Sunday.

Book

Buy-ology by Martin Lindstrom (2008)

What’s it about?

In BUYOLOGY, Lindstrom presents the astonishing findings from his groundbreaking, three-year, seven-million-dollar neuromarketing study, a cutting-edge experiment that peered inside the brains of 2,000 volunteers from all around the world as they encountered various ads, logos, commercials, brands, and products.

Why you should read it

Q2 is for learning consumer psychology (and UX Design) so I grabbed this book on a recommendation. It did not disappoint. I finished it in 2 days because the material is interesting as hell. You’ll want to understand how to sell better and why you buy in the first place.

Book

Bezonomics by Brian Dumaine (2020)

What’s it about?

An in-depth, revelatory, and unbiased look at Amazon’s world-dominating business model, the current competitors either imitating or trying to outfox Amazon, and the ways Bezonomics is shaping the life of every American consumer — from an award-winning Fortune magazine writer.

Why you should read it

For starters because Bezos is taking over the world. But also because the AI Amazon has created and will continue to improve on is wild. Everyone will be trying to replicate it and it will completely change the way our world works.

Beer

Crossfade (5%) from Oxbow (Maine)

What is it??

A Farmhouse ale, hop-forward saison, fermented and aged with brettanomyces in stainless tanks.

Why you should try it
