Your antidote to a week of chaos.

Toa Heftiba

Life is crazy. And at the end of the day, I’m convinced it’s simply meant to be enjoyed.

Be kind. Help others. Find purpose. Work. Play.

Ahem…Read. Drink.

And if you’re going to bother doing something you may as well do it well.

So read the best books. Drink the best beers.

You’ll find new ‘bests’ here every Sunday.

Book

Killing the Mob by Bill O’Reilly (2021)

What’s it about?

O’Reilly and co-author Martin Dugard trace the brutal history of 20th Century organized crime in the United States, and expertly plumb the history of this nation’s most notorious serial robbers, conmen, murderers, and especially, mob family bosses.

Why you should read it

The Killing series is a surprisingly great series of book. This one is no exception. If you’ve ever been curious about the Mob and how it ties into our history, political and otherwise, you’ll want to read this.

It reads quick like a fiction.

Book

The FBI Way by Frank Figliuzzi (2021)

What’s it about?

The FBI’s former head of counterintelligence reveals the Bureau’s field-tested playbook for unlocking individual and organizational excellence, illustrated through dramatic stories from his own storied career

Why you should read it

I’m not sure how much you’ll unlock in regard to personal excellence. But the stories are captivating. And there are some one liners to remember. One off the top of my head: Standards worth defining are worth defending. Okaaay Frank, we feel you.

Drink

High Beams (8%) from Magnify (New Jersey)

What is it??

High Beams is a new 8% DDH Imperial IPA. Local wildflower honey was added on the hot side for earthiness and complexity. We dry hopped this beer with Nelson Sauvin and this year’s fresh crop of Citra that just came in.

Why you should try it
