High ROI habits are the best kind.

Carl Heyerdahl

We all know habits are building or destroying your life.

Everything you do consistently is a habit.

It’s up to you to make sure you’re building the best ones into your days.

Here are 4 of the highest ROI habits you can incorporate into your life.

Your flow

Cal Newport wrote a book and gave flow a name…Deep Work.

Deep work is a condition of heightened focus that enables you to study challenging material and produce quality work rapidly.

Most people find mornings to be the easiest place to put a pocket of deep work in. Most of us don’t have much to do between 5–8am.

Other people swear by midday or nighttime deep work sessions.

Do what works for you.

The habit you want: 2–4 hours of daily deep work

Your rest

We’re an overworked society.

Some of us wear it as a badge of honor.

That’s foolish.

We’re at our best when we’re well rested.

For your health, sanity and productivity, get your sleep.

The habit you want: 7+ hours of sleep every night

Your wealth

You can’t build wealth unless you nail this basic: make more than you spend and save/invest the difference.

If you make 4k/month, you need to get to the point where you save 1k/month.

If you make 10k/month, the amount jumps to 2,500/month.

I’ve built up to about a 40% savings rate. Some months we hit 50%.

This is what accelerates our financial freedom plan.

The habit you want: a 25%+ savings rate

Your mind

Most adults don’t bother reading much, if at all.

And rarely is it non-fiction. And non-fiction is where the power lies.

Fiction is great…helps with vocab and storytelling. Powerful stuff on its own.

But non-fiction is where you get to learn from all the best minds without having to experience everything yourself.

The habit you want: reading 1 non-fiction book per week
